A warm welcome to the Luang Prabang Elephant Project at the Elephant Village! The Elephant Village and community project supports Elephants and humans to achieve a better life through tourism. The Elephant Village hosts former logging elephants just outside of Luang Prabang!
in 2003 to protect the Asian elephants in Laos and to free elephants from hard and dangerous logging work.
The
Elephant Park Project is located in the hidden valley of Luang Prabang on the banks
of the Nam Khan River - 15 km out of town.
The “Elephant Camp Ban Xieng Lom” is investing in a community based Elephant Camp which provides activities for elephants and experienced mahouts (elephant keepers) in the countryside of Luang Prabang.
Aims
of the Elephant Park Project
The Elephant Park Project has two different kinds of objectives. The first set of aims concerns the protection of Asian elephants and the second one intends to support the local community.

From a general point of view our project provides a good example of sustainable tourism and how to successfully link conservation with tourism.
Ecotourism and community-based tourism triangle:
A venture project between 3 cooperating companies exists.
There is a tour company: Tiger Trail which organises tours in the area. There is as well the Lao Spirit Resort and Restaurant, which provides foods at the restaurant and bungalows to overnight here. And finally there is the Elephant Park Project and Elephant Camp XL which take care of the elephants. The 3 partners are working in cooperation with each other.

The Elephant Park Project got recognized by the STAY-ANOTHER-DAY.org initiative which is set up by the "Mekong Private Sector Development Facility" (IFC-MPDF)
